Mozilla Foundation Opens Branch Office in Taiwan2011/10/25 | By Steve Chuang
Taipei, Oct. 25, 2011 (CENS)--Mozilla Foundation, a global non-profit organization dedicated to promoting more Internet openness and standards, has announced establishment of its first branch office in Taiwan.
Inspired by Taiwan's IT achievements and quality talents of software, the foundation has decided to set up a branch office on the island, which is the organization's third overseas branch in Asia following ones in Beijing and Tokyo, as well as the ninth in the world.
The Taiwan branch office will be engaged in innovating the Internet technologies, aimed at assisting Taiwanese software developers in working out more open source application software. This will make Taiwan's software industry better off turning to open platforms instead of relying on close source platforms brought by Apple Inc. and Microsoft Corp.
Founded in 2005, Mozilla Foundation is the best known for its Firefox Internet browser and Thunderbird emailing software, and renowned for its dedication to promoting open sources and building a better Internet environment. Presently, Firefox commands a 26.7% share of the global market for Internet browsers, only next to Microsoft's Internet Explorer. In response to growing popularity of PCDs (portable communication devices), Mozilla has also released Firefox mobile version.
