Quanta Regains Lead in Global NB PC Shipment in 2010

2011/01/14
Taipei, Jan. 14, 2011 (CENS)--Shipping over 52.1 million notebook PCs, Quanta Computer Inc., a globally leading notebook PC supplier, outpaced its Taiwanese counterpart Compal Electronics Inc. as world's largest in 2010, according to the firm.

The firm also reported a record high NT$1.092 trillion in combined revenue for the year, including NT$96.098 billion scored in December, which was 4.16% less than November but 5.26% more than December of 2009. In the month, the firm shipped 5 million notebook PCs, 100,000 units more than 4.9 million units a month earlier.

Institutional investors indicated that the firm's better-than-expected December revenue and shipment were partly due to HP's inventory restocking, and partly to Apple's hot-selling Mac notebook PCs.

The firm is also notable for becoming the second Taiwanese private enterprise with annual revenue exceeding NT$1 trillion in 2010, only next to Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., who earned over NT$2.3 trillion in sales revenue in the year.

Coincidentally, Compal posted combined revenue of NT$60.544 billion for December, 2010, down 15.17% year-on-year and 13.7% month-on-month, and NT$851.906 billion for the whole year, for a 33.7% growth from 2009.

The firm, who unseated Quanta as world's No. 1 notebook PC maker in 2009, shipping 48.2 million notebook PCs in 2010, including 3.5 million units in December, hence giving up its lead to Quanta. However, institutional investors optimistically forecast that the two firm's full-year shipments will both hit 60 million units in 2011.
