Taipei, May 13, 2010 (CENS)--Thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) makers in Taiwan reported ups and downs in the operation results for April.
AU Optronics Corp. (AUO) registered consolidate revenue of US$1.29 billion for April, up 1.2% month-on-month (MoM) and 68.9% year-on-year (YoY). The company delivered 9.66 million large-sized (over-10-inch) panels last month, a 1.1% MoM decrease, and 21.1 million small/medium-sized panels, down 1.3% MoM.
AUO estimated that its shipments in the second quarter would increase 10% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ), because its TV-panel deliveries to some mainland Chinese TV brands were not as good as originally expected in the first quarter. The Taiwanese panel supplier said that Chinese TV makers have been actively posting demand from the second quarter and its monthly revenues in the quarter are expected to continue going higher.
Chunghwa Picture Tubes, Ltd. (CPT) had consolidate April revenue of US$241.5 million, down 6.8% MoM but up 91.2% YoY.
The company`s spokesman Lee Hsueh-long pointed out that his company was controlling the shipments of products with too-low prices to prevent declining profits. CPT estimated that downstream customers would more actively take cargo into warehouse in the third quarter so it is actively preparing needed materials to welcome the peak season.
As the TV panel prices are suffering stiffer drops, CPT has shifted more capacity to notebook PC and monitor panels.
HannStar Display Corp. reported consolidate revenue of US$182.16 million in April, up 9.68% MoM and up 36% YoY. The company pointed out that it has been actively transforming into a supplier of small/medium-sized panels in recent years, leading to the increasing small/medium-sized panel shipments and decreasing deliveries of large-sized products. Small/medium-sized panels have higher margins, the company said.
