Delta Ventures into Production of E-paper Display Panels

2009/12/14
Taipei, Dec. 14, 2009 (CENS)--Delta Electronics Inc., the largest power supplies manufacturer in Taiwan, has actively ventured into production of e-paper display panels and will kick off mass production of a variety of such panels in 2010, according to Yancey Hai, CEO of the firm.

Besides power supplies and electronic components for electric cars and LEDs (light emitting diodes), Delta will also be increasingly focused on production of e-paper display panels, especially, in the future, Hai notes, as an estimate of US$12 billion worth of business opportunities in the global market for e-paper applications have been created amid popularity of such display panels.

Through cooperation with Bridgestone Corp. of Japan, the firm has effectively applied the partner`s QR-LPD technology to its e-paper display panels for mass production. So far, the firm has secured new customers in the line, Hai indicates.

In fact, the firm can turn out 4.1-inch e-paper display panels for medical purposes, which are well recognized to enhance hospital`s e-management capabilities. Considering e-paper display panel`s advantages of low electricity consumption, thinness and lightweight and power supply independence, Delta is also planning to vastly apply the products in outdoor large-sized signages, e-tags and electronic displays besides e-book readers to carve out more niches.

With the global market for electronic products picking up, the firm reported sales revenue of NT$12.208 billion (US$375.63 million at US$1: NT$32.5) for November, up 4% from NT$11.768 billion (US$362.09 million) posted in October and rising13% from a year earlier. However, dampened by global downturn early this year, the firm`s aggregate sales revenue of NT$113.116 billion (US$3.48 billion) for the first eleven months of the year is still 16% less than the corresponding figure of a year earlier.
