Taipei, Nov. 23, 2009 (CENS)--With e-book readers emerging as one of the most popular consumer electronics during the Christmas sales season, the Taiwan-based Prime View International Co. (PVI), the island`s leading supplier of e-paper display panels, has seen its production lines fully booked till the end of December, very likely to enjoy a sales boom in the fourth quarter of this year.
With intense concentration on e-paper display panels, the key component for e-book readers, PVI has seen contribution of the product line to its total sales revenue quickly move up to 60% in the third quarter from 20% early this year. In response to explosively increasing demand for e-paper displays, the firm has readied more production lines for the products at its factories, including one that is acquired from Korea`s Hydis.
To fill a flood of contract orders, the firm signed an agreement in early October with Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp., a globally leading supplier of display panels, to outsource production to the latter. However, with the partner already merged into Chimei Innolux Corp. by Hon Hai Group this month, whether the agreement will remain good will depend on Hon Hai Group`s intention in the future.
In the meantime, PVI is also scheduled to complete its acquisition of E Ink Corp., the largest supplier of e-ink, raw material for e-paper display, at the end of this year, and is applying for a new syndicated loan, which is expected to be approved by the end of the year.
