TAITRA to Hold `Taiwan Trade Fair` in Nanjing for 3 Straight Years

2009/11/18
Taipei, Nov. 18, 2009 (CENS)--Due to the success of "Taiwan Trade Fair" held this year in Nanjing, from Sept. 17-20, Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the government-backed trade promoter and the organizer of the fair, has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Nanjing City Government on holding the fair in Nanjing annually in the next three years.

The pact was inked when Nanjing Mayor Ji Jianye visited Taiwan in mid-November. Ji said that "Taiwan Trade Fair" held this year in Nanjing was very successful and attracted more than 260,000 visitors during the four-day exhibition, making it the largest of the trade shows held in the city in terms of the number of visitors.

C. K. Wang, chairman of TAITRA, indicated that the trade fair in Nanjing was the largest exhibition ever held by TAITRA in China and the success of the fair was beyond expectation. He said that TAITRA will expand the scale of the fair in 2010, and will establish a Taiwan products supply center in Nanjing and create a street providing mainly Taiwan products in the city as well.

Ji discloed that the four-day Taiwan Trade Fair in Nanjing generated US$750 million worth of deals and benefited both sides of the strait. Ji said that over 2,600 Taiwanese enterprises have invested in Nanjing with combined investment value of about US$3.2 billion, and expected the trade between Nanjing and Taiwan to surge further after the inking of the MOU.

Taiwan Trade Fair will be held not only in Nanjing, but also in other big cities in China. Late last week Wang flew to Chongqing of Sichuan Province to meet Bo Xilai, secretary of Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), to explore the possibility of holding Taiwan Trade Fair there. Besides, Walter Yeh, executive vice president of TAITRA, is expected to fly to Dongguan of Guangdong Province soon to see if there is any chance for holding Taiwan Trade Fair there.
