2009/10/02
Taipei, Oct. 2, 2009 (CENS)--Inventec Corp., one of Taiwan`s leading contract manufacturers of NB PCs, recently obtained major orders for four consumer- and business NBs from the global leader: Hewlett Packard.

Thanks to the acquisition of the Hewlett Packard orders, Inventec has set a goal to ship 30 million NBs in 2010, up 36% year-on-year from this year`s anticipated 22 million. The company expects to ship 15 million NBs to Hewlett Packard in 2010, up 25% from this year`s 12 million.

An institutional investor predicted Inventec can maintain a high shipment of two million to 2.1 million NBs in September, with the shipments to grow 21% year-on-year to reach 6.3 million in the third quarter.

According to a survey made by the International Data Corporation (IDC), Hewlett Packard saw world market share climb to 20% in the second quarter of this year from 18.5% a year ago. In the same comparison period, Dell saw its global market share slip two percentage points to 13.7%.

IDC projected global shipments of PC will reach 309 million units in 2010, 186 million of which will be NBs, with HP to account for between 36 million and 37 million NBs.

Thanks to the booming sales of its major clients, including Hewlett Packard and Toshiba, Inventec scored NT$26.198 billion (US$808.58 million at US$1:NT$32.4) in sales in the first eight months of this year, up 27.98% year-on-year.
