Mio Intros World`s 1st In-car GPS with Built-in SIM-card Support

2008/10/17
Taipei, Oct. 17, 2008 (CENS)--Mio, the GPS Navigation brand under Mitac International Corp., recently demonstrated the Mio Moov 380, the first in-car GPS system equipped with built-in SIM card support.

Mio also claimed that the Mio Moov 380 is the world`s slimmest and most-compact car navigation device.

In Taiwan, Mio cooperates with major telecoms operator Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET), to offer the device with the exclusive "Mio Life Info. Specialist" real-time search functionality; while FET`s SIM card provides access to the "FET GPS Info--Go Service", which enable consumers to experience a new generation of real-time Internet searches using their in-car GPS system.

According to Samuel Wang, Vice President of MiTAC Inc. and President of Mio Technology Corp., the development of wireless networking has enabled Mio to integrate wireless communication and real-time transmission technology into its GPS-enabled car-electronics products, as well as allow these products to offer six kinds of location-oriented services: on the go safety, positioning, navigation, tracing & management, commercial and leisure entertainment services, generating new business opportunities for car electronics products.

By adopting networking technologies, Wang pointed out, Mio enables in-car devices to offer more services than traditional car GPS systems. From real-time traffic data navigation to the latest entertainment information, it enables in-car GPS systems to navigate in a smarter way and also enrich the lives of users.

In order to provide even-better real time information, Mio teamed up with FET to further enhance the original Traffic Message Channel (TMC) feature. When anything unexpected happens on the planned route, messages are transmitted to the car`s GPS device, allowing users to reprogram routes. It also offers a basic navigation service that is based on Short Message Service (SMS), enabling users to rapidly communicate with their friends and locate each other.
