Everlight Reports Lucrative April Results

2008/05/16
Taipei, May 16, 2008 (CENS)--Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd., currently Taiwan`s largest light-emitting diode (LED) packager, scored revenue of NT$945 million (US$30.98 million at US$1: NT$30.5) in April, while another counterpart Bright LED Electronics Corp. raked in revenue of NT$320 million (US$10.49 million) in the same month.

Everlight reportedly has begun delivering LEDs for backlight unit (BLU) this month.

In fact, Everlight disclosed early this year that it would begin small-volume delivery of LED lamp strips for 7-inch and 8-inch low-price notebook PCs and such shipments would expand in the third or fourth quarter.

Some institutional investors said that Everlight began shipments of notebook PC BLU LEDs this month, so they expect the company`s second-quarter revenue to climb by over 10% from the previous quarter.

As many notebook PC models launched in the second half this year will adopt LED BLUs, the institutional investors said that the penetration rate of LED notebook BLUs would rise to 15% to 20% in the second half. So the investors predicted that Everlight`s BLU LED shipments would expand in the third quarter and the company`s SMD (surface mount device) monthly capacity would increase to 1 billion units in the second half.

Bright LED said that it received excessive orders for SMD LEDs, but demands for infrared (IR) and traditional LEDs were not very strong in April. The company decided to upgrade its monthly SMD LED capacity by 30 million to 300 million units by the end of this month, but there will still be a 10% to 15% supply vacancy.
